floating notes

Kit-R2This is one of those cards that looks better in real life, but at least you can get an idea.

I started with a piece of black cardstock, and heat embossed the sheet music background using black embossing powder.  That part actually photographed pretty well.

The part that’s harder to see is how those notes are floating.  Instead of just using some standard foam squares to raise them up, I actually took a piece of black foam and die-cut the notes out of it, and then just layered the colorful cardstock notes on top.  The black foam really just blends into the background, making the notes look a bit like they are floating.

You could probably get a similar effect by layering several die-cut notes together, all cut from black cardstock.  The effect might not be quite as smooth from the side, but pretty close from the front.  However, the foam wasn’t expensive, and this was actually a very quick and easy design.

The sentiment is just die-cut letters in bright colors, I added some enamel dots in the upper right-hand corner, and put the whole thing on a white card base.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

happy spring day!

Kiteaster2014For those who celebrate, Happy Easter!  For those who don’t, Happy Spring Day! I hope y’all are enjoying the same sunshine I am.  Yes, it’s sunny today in mid-Ohio!  In fact, I even photographed my card outside today!  (That’s something I almost never get to do.)

I just love this stamp set – Spring Things, from Stampendous.  I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils and OMS, and used a bit of chalk around the edges.  Some happy spring-type paper, a bit of ribbon and some Prima flowers finishes it off.

(I have to confess… I actually colored this image ages ago and never did anything with it. I just happened to come across it this morning and knew I had to use it today.  The paper is ages old, too, but it seemed to fit.)

Short, quick post today, because I’m determined to get back outside and enjoy that rare sunshine!

Have a happy day, and thanks for stopping by!

Kit040614Oh gosh… it’s been a while since I last posted.  I just might have gone a little overboard with my enthusiasm for Chemo Angels, and my desire to “make the world a better place, one card at a time”.  I am now making and sending so many cards that I don’t have time for anything else… like this blog.  But I’m working on that.  In fact, I had to upgrade my “planner” to something bigger and better, to keep track of it all.  (Maybe I’ll share that in a future post.)

For today, it’s just a quick, simple, “guy” card.  I still struggle with cards for the opposite sex.  It might have something to do with my hubby insisting that there are two kinds of guys:  those who have no interest in cards, and those who lie and say they do, LOL.  (Seriously, he’s an amazing guy.  He supports me 110% in anything I care about… even if he doesn’t understand it.)

This card really doesn’t need instructions.  I just picked out a rather masculine patterned paper, added some thin strips of paper in guy-acceptable colors, and attached a few metal brads.

Okay, more cards to prepare!  Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!
