regal bird

There is just something regal and majestic about peacocks, making them perfect for sharing on a card for a beautiful friend. The Beautiful Peacock stamp set from Stampin’ Up! is part of their Sale-a-Bration celebration – it’s free with any $50.00 purchase, through the end of March.  And free is good.  🙂

This two-part stamp set takes just a bit of practice, but if you know the trick, it’s pretty easy.  I started with the bird’s body, stamping it in Night of Navy, in the center of a 2″ circle.  Then, I took the feathers stamp and inked it up well with some Pool Party ink.  Using sponge wedges, I added some Bermuda Bay, and then Night of Navy ink, working my way up the feathers, to give it that ombre effect.  A quick “huff” on the stamp, for good measure, and then I lined it up over the bird’s body, and stamped.  This is the only slightly tricky part on this card, but there’s a trick…

lining up the feathers

If you look closely at the feathers stamp, you will notice that there’s a bit of a “notch” in one area at the top of the stamp.  It actually almost looks like a defect – a gap in the design – but it’s not.  This is actually where the bird’s head goes.  I found it easiest to line up his head with that notch, and then kind of wiggle the feathers over his body, until the rest of the stamp fit over the large gap.  And I definitely suggest using darker ink for the body, and stamping it first.  This makes the body easier to see “through” the other clear stamp.

putting it all together

The rest is pretty simple.  I started with a standard A2 sized card-base made from Night of Navy Cardstock.  I took a piece of white paper cut to 5-1/4″ x 4″, and used Pool Party ink to add those peacock feather flourish thingies to create a background.  Using a retired folder called Boho Chic (but you could substitute this with whatever you have), I embossed a piece of Pool Party cardstock, cut to 1-1/2″ x 4″.  I then adhered this to the left side of my flourished background.  (It looks like that white piece on the right is cut down, and you could certainly do it that way, but I preferred to use the larger white piece and do all of my work there, before adhering it to the card-base.)

finishing touches

I used a thin (1/4″?) strip of navy paper to create a separation between the embossed piece and the rest of the card.  Then, I took strips of white cardstock, matted them with the navy paper, used one for the sentiment (stamped in the same navy ink), and put the other strip at the top left, to sort of balance out the card.  A little blue die-cut bow seemed the perfect embellishment.  The white circle with the peacock is adhered to a scalloped circle cut from Night of Navy, and added to the card with dimensionals.  And, of course, I had to add some Wink of Stella to the feathers.  Here’s a better look at the sparkle:

That does it for today’s card.  I have so many more cards to share, but no time!  Please hang in there with me – hitting a bit of a personal rough patch and might not be able to post for a bit, but I WILL be back.  Card-making is keeping me sane.  🙂

Thank you so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful day, my beautiful friends!
