hug in a mug card

Hug in a Mug Stampin' Up! card by Kitty Smith,

hug in a mug

Okay, so… I don’t have a good New Year’s card this year.  (I’ve done some in the past, but this year, I think my creativity was just plain frozen.)  But, given that much of the country (even Florida!) is experiencing colder-than-normal temps today, I thought that we could all use a bit of hot chocolate… and hot chocolate is like a hug in a mug, right?

This card actually came about one evening when the air seemed especially chilly.  I had a handful of stamped images that I had wanted to color, and this one jumped right out at me.  I pulled out my Prismacolor pencils, and just had some fun coloring.  The next day, though, I decided that I was pretty happy with how this image turned out, and decided to make it the focal point of this card.

card set-up:

The rest was pretty easy.  I just matted the image with some nice, warm, bright red paper, added a zig-zag accent strip, punched out three red hearts, and stamped the oh-so-perfect sentiment.  To me, this card is all about the stamp set – everything else was just a case of using what I had.  The good news is that this set – Hug In A Mug Photopolymer Stamp Set – is still available from Stampin’ Up!  The bad news is that you really have to hurry, because after tomorrow, it’s being retired.  This last holiday catalog was my favorite catalog to date – I loved every single item in it!  Everything was a must-have. (Too bad my bank account didn’t agree with me.  😉 )

The photo’s a bit fuzzy – it was snapped in a rush, as I needed to get this one in the mail right away to someone up north.  We’re going to be slipping into the 40’s this week (brrrrr!!!), but this friend is dealing with snow and ice and MUCH colder temps.  She needs all the warm cocoa she can get.

happy new year!

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions?  While I certainly do have things to work on, I decided a while back that I was more likely to accomplish my goals if I didn’t call them resolutions.  🙂  This year?  I am going to focus on connecting better with people.  It’s time for this hermit to find “her people”, and climb out of this shell.  Are you my people?  If you think you might be, please leave a comment, or send me a note and let me know!  Thank you so much for visiting my page!  Wishing you a very happy 2018 and beyond!
